Tainari88 wrote:@Hakeer in terms of Puerto Ricans? You can pack your bags and go and live in the mainland USA. You can vote if you move from Puerto Rico. All of the restriction is enforced if you remain in Puerto Rico. If you move to the USA you can vote, work, and have US citizenship rights.

If you remain in Puerto Rico you are stripped and restricted.

Why do you think that is? See if you can figure it out?

It’s not too hard to figure out. If you remain on the island, you are limited to the resources available there. That’s why they migrate to the U.S. and 57% voted for statehood on November 5, 2024.

I am sure there are some. You can’t overestimate the ignorance of some of these people. But there wouldn’t be enough. There are Republicans who follow the news and would feel betrayed and punish Republicans in the next election.

My faint hope is that they will calculate only the number of deportations needed to put on a good show without going full-Stalin with this, causing enormous suffering to millions of families.

That is not all fascists do.

They also make opposition parties illegal, use lawfare to disqualify opponents, spy on their own citizens, and commit genocide as State policy.

We're already there, and have been for a long time.

Pretending that Trump represents a fascist threat to the USA... ignores all the USA history (and Western atrocities) of the last few centuries. Fascists also erase and edit their own histories, so you may be a practicing fascist yourself, Hakeer.

No that is not the reason. Did you study the insular cases yes or no?

Singapore has less natural resources than Puerto Rico does is a sovereign nation and has the most valued passport on Earth.

So think...why if you leave Puerto Rican land you get your rights in the mainland?

If you are an empire that had to take Puerto Rico and bypass votes against becoming a US citizen or being part of the USA--and you had imposed US citizenship why restrict it in Puerto Rico and not in the diaspora?

Why not have the entire island emptied of Puerto Ricans and just all of us live in the mainland and vote for Trump? Lol. What is going on there Hakeer. I am noticing you are incapable of thinking like a Puerto Rican might think. Haha.

Come on friend. Put your thinking cap on?

I am trying to not laugh. That was a hard one to overcome.

Ave Maria.

I have to go and have breakfast. And do some errands here. But shit Q that was a body slam. Hakeer still thinks the Puerto Ricans are benefitting greatly from the relationship. Patting the Puerto Ricans on the head...vote Democrat. They care.

No they manipulate and lie.

Hoping that they do not have to realize how bad the thing goes in history.

Es triste. :flamer: That was a burn Q. Have some compassion eh.

So you see no qualitative difference between Trump and EVERY other president in U.S. history — even Nixon?

And you see no qualitative difference between Project 2025 and EVERY other platform proposal in U.S. history? Have you looked at it? It collapses all political power from the 3 branches of government into the executive, unchecked power of one man, Donald J. Trump.

People in this country need to wake the fuck up!!

Perhaps Trump will be inspired by Andrew Jackson, and send a new group of (unproductive) people onto a Trail of Tears.

Or maybe FDR will inspire him, and he will make it illegal for non-banksters to hold gold.

Or he could look at Reagan for historical inspiration, and sell arms to Iran to fund USA-endorsed terrorism in Latin America.

Like Reagan, Trump learned to lie by being coached by the mass media industry. And he met "all the right people" during his life of criminal capitalism and mass media stardom.

He is the ultimate American president in many ways. You just don't like being one of his potential victims this time. But past presidents have been fascist, and have had hundreds of millions of dead bodies to show for it.

I could add more to your list of criminal and immoral acts by prior presidents.

But Trump and the Heritage Foundation (project 2025) are the first to gain power with the expressed purpose of fundamentally changing our system of government to autocracy.

The Trumpster Supreme Court has already granted him absolute immunity from future prosecution for his crime, and the Reputation Congress will never impeach him for anything he does the next 4 years, passing virtually any legislation he wants. The checks and balances on presidential power are nearly evaporated.

The only chance we have is to vote them out in 2026 and 2028…if it’s not already too late.

Dead in the water, yes.

However, there is progress of sorts. The bill passed in the House didn't have the island's current territorial status as one of the options for the first time.

It has sovereignty with free association. It is an attempt to break up the independence vote. If they have an option for statehood that is independent of the US Congress do you think they would allow it? Lol.

It is political theater Ingliz. It does nothing at all.

What is going to work like it worked in the 19th century. Progress will happen when the US government stops with the lying and gets scared and has an incentive to change the status.

If they go with statehood? They are going to open the door for every unincorporated territory and shitty deal they have done to the Guamanians, the Filipinos, the Boricuas, the Cubans, the Native American Reservation system, the Solomon Islanders, the American Samoans, the Eskimos, and so on and so forth. That apology that Clinton did with the Native Hawaiians and their Queen? It is all a legal serious problem.

It also includes Tierra Amarilla in Texas, New Mexico, California.

They are going to have to make a deal Ingliz. The smart thing is compromise. But knowing the rejuvinate the nation with violence is the Fascist motto?

They are asking for trouble. Of the IRA kind.

Albizu Campos and I paraphrase, 'You open the Yankees ears with bullets.' Because that was the only thing that made them allow us to wave the flag that is Puerto Rican in Puerto Rico. The only thing that made them push through a self government of local crap like the governorship and other concessions. Talk never worked.

And I hate violence Ingliz. It leads to someone innocent getting caught in the middle and getting hurt.

You would think that reason would be listened to. But knowing MAGA? No. They are going to be in denial. And it is going to be long long road to reason. If it ever arrives within a reasonable time.

The key is to stop the crap.

I am so sick of ignorance Ingliz. Ignorant people. They never read history or have curiosity of why there are things happening and they are surprised. There is seldom surprise if you study human history, human behavior and data, anslysis, science, numbers, biology and have some analytical skills. Also when you know why MYTH is so powerful. And how to understand the power harnassed by myth.

Sometimes people just fucking disappoint me...Ingliz.

I think I am starting to get why you like firearms. They are an expression of human imaginations and are meant to be used in very hard disputes. Or defense. It is either offense or defense. But in the end, it is not about who has more muscle when they use a gun. But who uses it for what purpose.

Peace is far more preferable. But the violent political power hungry intolerants make it impossible to live in peace.

It is a reality.

I wasn’t even thinking particularly of natural resource, although there are more in the U.S. I was thinking about…

> Job opportunities
> Higher income
> More and better educational resources
> Better medical facilities

These are probably the main reasons why there are more Puerto Ricans in the U.S. than in Puerto Rico.

As far as the politics, I consider the labor economics. Giving them citizenship allows more immigration to fill service sector and construction jobs on the east coast of the U.S. You don’t need to give statehood to accomplish that. It would bring in Puerto Rico as the poorest state in the country and drain money from the federal budget to prop up a “floating pile of garbage.” That is probably how Congress looks at it. From the other side, the 57% of Puerto Ricans who voted for statehood were thinking the same in reverse in addition to gaining voting rights in U.S. elections and having their own representatives in the Senate. The Trump Congress would hate adding two Democratic Senators from Puerto Rico to cancel their Republican Senators in Wyoming.

How am I doing so far?

You did not watch the videos.

When you are interested in the history of Puerto Rico we will continue then.

For now....you are being patronizing and very unable to understand what the other side thinks. You are stuck with patronizing stuff Hakeer.

No one is handed stuff for free and out of the goodness of their hearts in these systems in US or PR history Hakeer.

Everything has to be paid for. Including rights.

woodrow Wilson man had a very unpopular war on this hands. Most American citizens did not want to get involved in Europe. Or send their sons to die in WWI. if you could draft Puerto Rican men and force them to go to war for US government interests without having them protest? And be cannon fodder for the Wilson administration then why not? And you knew they can't vote but can die for you? Perfect incentive for making them statutory citizens. Not guaranteed by the US Constitution.

Read the insular cases.

You did not read them?

Garment district factories from NYC went looking for cheap labor on the island in waves.

Sanford Dole in Hawaii went looking for cheap labor in pineapple and sugar harvesting in Hawaii too.

Poverty never improved from 1898 all the way to the 1930s. What use was being US citizens if the poverty remains the same? Whether being or not being a US citizen?

That is what FDR faced. An entire nation of people who were US citizens during the Great Depression post the Wall Street crash of 1929.

if there was economic hardship in the USA in the Great Depression? it was much more severe on the island. The title of US citizen what good is it if you can't make money or compete for markets because all of the major decisions are only favoring the mainland interests and none are favoring the island's interests?

That is the question Hakeer.

It is the equivalent to the Ministry of Development. It's primary job is to centralise the allocation of state funds for private enterprise.

They are not in office yet.

Usually the only reason to frame it that way is to avoid oversight and transparency.

Without oversight, you usually lose funding as well. Elon could finance it out of his pocket or Trump could redirect money from other parts of the government, but one seems too greedy and the other too incompetent to make that work. :excited:

Yeah whatever. There is nothing inherently bad or good about DOGE. It just depends what they will do and how will they approach things. Laws can also be passed if needed its not that much of a problem. I don't think that anybody has anything against a institution to increase efficiency of government.

Honestly Trump has been relatively neutral after he won at least in my book with his announcements on what he plans to do. Besides perhaps war on the cartels everything is neutral or good in my book. War on the cartels is unexpected and probably also good.

There has been no news about the really juicy stuff like Tariffs or abortions or punishing judges-other people investigating him or Anti-vax bullshit(Although its funny that Kennedy wants to implement EU style regulations for food?). There were news about him wanted to investigate "deep state" but what exactly does that mean? That can literally mean anything.
