Well...it isn't, though. PoFoLand isn't a real place in the real world.

Why are you so angry? :?:

Most of us are from Western Europe or from Western Europe's offshoots (North America, Antipodes), so it only makes sense that PoFo land be a Western country. I would prefer us to be fully developed, as in the first place I don't want to govern a shit country, and in the second place I doubt most posters understand that expansive welfare states, which we are likely to have, tend to ruin less developed countries. Being fully industrialized also allows us to play with the issues most of us are used to arguing about, rather than dealing with issues like lack of clean water.

Here's another biggie...(In case it hasn't been covered)

Are we Nuclear Capable, and/or do we have the bomb?

It seems to me like we should be so that the situations we face are as realistic to those most of us deal with OT anyway.

PoFoLand : The Reality
1. SuperReality: PoliticsForum.org is a transcendent geographic territory with citizens located in real space around the real world and living in real time, consider it -at best- an informal, voluntary Transnational_republic. It's rulers are its founders and appointed administrators. It is -an apparently benevolent- dictatorship.
2. SubReality: PoFoLand is a breakaway region within PoliticsForum.org with nominal independance, currently struggling to form a government. It's geography is at once identical to PoliticsForum.org and also confined to the PoFo Parliament sub-forum. It's population and powers are limited to that sub-forum.
3. SuperFantasy: We don't need fantasy citizen or fantasy territory, PoFo is our citizenry and our territory. Its reality is centered on its Government. PoFoLand is primarily its Government, reality will be checked according to what happens in Parliament.
4. SubFantasy: The Reality of a given submission, being checked according to the next higher degree of Reality, is subject first to its own quality, and a reception on that basis.

In as much as possible a submission will not be subject to escalation. Escalation will be allowed only in cases of contentions that threaten PoFoLand's existence. The creation of a flag, a census and survey of PoFoland will be undertaken by Parliament and not by an independent group - especially a partisan and self-appointed group.

How all this works in fact can be very informal, and will retain its informality in as much as what material is shared between the factions involved is respected as a consensual matter. You cannot change the shared reality without sharing the process of change.

PoFoLand : The Process
1. Submission: A submission, for example the shooting in parliament, is to be judged first of all on artistic merit and where lacking said merit to be corrected -if at all possible- by a subsequent submission equally in character and to be tested likewise by its own integral merit.
2. Parliament as a Correcting Mechanism: If it is found to be impossible to correct or effects a shared factor, for example the nature of PoFoLand itself, it becomes subject to Parliamentary procedure.

The Breaking News : Rogue Elements of PoFoLand attempt to reshape the planet! Liberty Caucus advocate Suska stumbled upon a conspiracy to create people and continents, to conquer Germany, Denmark! "This is unconstitutional!" His lone voice objected.

3. PoFo as a Correcting Mechanism: If the thing gets ridiculous (or cruel), or introverted people will stop playing, or Admins will have to step on it. If you want the game to continue you will avoid this contingency, employ Artistic/Intellectual merit as your first form of legitimacy and in shared matters you will employ Parliament.

----------------

1. Unilaterally making decisions before we even have a government.
2. RPGers who need rules for want of storytelling talent. Fantasy elements in order to turn it into a contest that can be won by something other than Storytelling talent et cetera. If your Submission does not find itself legitimate you cannot resort to some ludicrous military invasion of invented people. You must find the support within the real elements of PoFoLand.
3. PoFo is not in Europe, nor is it in America, nor is it in some bizarre Averaged Earth Place. It is everywhere it needs to be for it to be fun.

There is a thread to vote for whether or not PoFo has a fictional territory and fictional denizens. Vote there for your preference.

I propose that Pofoland ended up as a pawn in the wars of the great European naval empires, sometime during the 17th-18th centuries. Perhaps it could have been fought over between Britain and the Netherlands around the time of Dutch Spain?

This could mean that the country has been effectively ruled for centuries by foreign-installed aristocrats, explaining the high level of class consciousness (and subsequently socialism) in the working class population.

Maybe there was a phony "royal family" which continued to wield significant political clout until the late 60s, when the left-wing populist government (later deposed) took power?
