winners & losers

winners
the Greens 15.7 % (+ 6.2)
strong showing but the greens need it.

palmer 12.5% (+7.5)
apparently money DOES vote and often! Hard to see Palmer not self destructing, then again he simply cannot be quite as stupid as he appears.

losers
labour 21.9% (-4.7)
a weak position now looks extremely bad.

liberals 33.8 (-5.4)
but from a strong position, you would think we that self destruction of palmer united very likely a lot of the votes could come back.

The ALP candidate was a right-wing faction rat, so glad he lost.

and the real loser...

Abbott's carbon tax repeal mandate.

Ironically, due to a quirk in our system, the slump in labor's vote could mean them gaining a seat (due to Green preferences).

Greens the real winners - this gives them a net gain of 1 seat for the next parliament.

Really? I don't see him in the WA Senators list

I assume you are talking about Joe Bullock - (far) right wing factional rat who won preselection by a deal with the WA left faction - who has now regretted the deal and is now demanding he resigns. He was listed as No 1 on the labor ticket and won a seat. Loise Pratt was No 2 and will probably miss out.

Not in the Senate atm. If we're lucky he'll be dropped and another person selected

That's a pretty significant swing against both LNP and Labor, and may the a sign of the things to come in the next federal election. Much would depend on whether the Greens pursue the Tasmanian strategy of out-liberaling of Liberal, or the anti-establishment strategy practiced by Ludlam.

........or the out-Laboring of Labor by Tony Abbott

Tony appears to be using the Rudd labor approach.

Announce massive spending infrastructure projects in the current term with the funding left to future Govts.

It's win - win. If the economy improves then he'll get the credit. If it doesn't and he's voted out then Labor can't scrap the deal without commiting suicide.

Western Sydney seats will go along way to electing the next Govt.

.......and the Left parties won't have any room for their usual big spending, unfunded, taxpayer money down the drain vote bribing schemes........ even if they eventually do get back to office.....

That's GOLD

I think we can agree it is painful to see the inability of ALP to take advantage of the massive weakness and numerous stuff-ups of the LNP both at the federal and state level. I don't hold out any hope for ALP.
