I always believe that natural sciences are all waste of time, energy and money if they don't have an effect on lives of ordinary people. Those people are just getting paid for doing nothing. Even the case is getting worse when they are funded by the state.
Let me know when they really invent a valuable thing.
The principles behind the MRI machine came out of physics, discovered by a physicist with no interest in medicine. This is just one example.
A lot of things from physics do a lot of good in things like medical research, as do a lot of things from chemistry. After all biology is just a very complicated chemical and physical system.
A lot of the lab techniques used also rely heavily on discoveries from physics and chemistry.
Fluorescent tagging of proteins, DNA, and RNA.
Xray crystallography of proteins.
Radioactive tagging.
The list goes on indefinitely.
My dream is a hemispheric common market, with open trade and open borders.
