This is massacre of African American farmer sharecroppers is an example of how despite the official abolition of slavery in the US from the American Civil War that slavery still existed in reality though officially not on the law books. This particular episode in history also illustrates how white supremacy is part of the fabric of American society. Here is a an excellent video of that particular massacre.
