Germany was actually very horrified and indeed threatened by Stalin's invasion of Finland. For ethical reasons actually...but you might as well also be aware that Finland was the only source Germany had for nickel. Stalin probably hoped to deprive them of that resource which was critical for their tank production.

People should be reminded and ponder how it was that the ussr invasion of Finland and Poland did not provoke the uk to declare war...when that was supposed to be their excuse for declaring war on Germany. Instead the allies supported the ussr and even supplied them with weapons from the lend lease program long before formally becoming allies with them.

It isn't easy to figure out how that decision makes any sense from a geopolitical standpoint. Indeed all of the western allies would have been better off joining eith Germany to fight the ussr, just as general Patton later observed.

Both the British and French prime ministers at least on the surface seemed hell bent on getting into a war with the Soviet Union. They tried to get forces into Finland, but the war ended before this succeeded. With the benefit of hindsight this policy may seem reckless, but at the time the allies were confident that they had more than enough forces to contain any German advance in the West and that hey were therefore free to look elsewhere for places to deploy their surplice forces.
