Located on a hill of Zhaxi Ceri, about twelve kilometers southeast of Tsetang Township, Lhoka Prefecture of Tibet Autonomous Region, the Yumbu Lhakhang Palace is the first palace ever built in Tibet.

Tradition has it that it was built by Buddhism believers for Nyatri Tsenpo, the first king of Tibet, in 2nd century BC. King Songtsan Gampo and Princess Wencheng once lived here for a short time after they got married. The Yumbu Lhakhang Palace has become their summer palace after they had moved to Lhasa, capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region.

In 1962, Yumbu Lhakhang Palace was listed as the regional level cultural relics protection unit.
