A round of testing. :D

Use this link

http://www.yourmorals.org/?grp=3bb37f450c4895eea305d5efe348c2e3

Which will take you to a site that tests moral and political psychology, and then post your results for the moral foundations test, the disgust test, And the interpersonal reactance test. My wondering has been wether right and left libertarians are similar in there moral foundations with simply different beliefs and conclusions about reality and the best way to get there, or are we really that different?

I'll come back to this tomorrow. I did those tests a few months ago and, having just logged in again, the site has kept my scores. I'll present them in the morning :D

I've done the first five. But what do I do after that? What "results" do I publish?

I've realized that the later tests are utter baloney. It is absurd reductionism.

It looks like you would be a somewhat more patriotic and nationalistic than the norm liberal. :hmm:

Of course that's going by Haidts American centric research and my own intuition.

Authority and loyalty, though it needn't be neccesarily true that you feel it towards the UK it would make sense since you were a soldier. It simply means that you consider respecting authority and being loyal as important attributes to have to be moral.

Nuts conforms to the general findings about libertarians of the US variety.

I want some left libertarians in here too.

Political Compass places me squarely in the left libertarian fold.

* It would take an average of $33.333333333333 to get you to violate the HARM foundation.
* It would take an average of $666.66666666667 to get you to violate the FAIRNESS foundation.
* It would take an average of $4020 to get you to violate the INGROUP foundation.
* It would take an average of $0 to get you to violate the AUTHORITY foundation.
* It would take an average of $200002 to get you to violate the PURITY foundation.

Well that's a crock of shit. I answered "no amount of money" to kicking dogs, poking children with needles, and even rigging elections and cheating at cards, but I got $33 for harm? I'd curse out my parents for free (and have, actually), but I got over $4k for ingroup? And at what point was I ever asked about purity/sanctity? Does the score that I got for "fairness" account for the fact that the money I'd get for not helping my friend move out of his apartment would go toward paying people to help him move instead?

Well, at least the Authority number is accurate

Like Ingliz, the political compass test vaguely classifies me as a left-libertarian at roughly -6.5 on the economic scale, and -8.5 on the social... the possible outcomes ranging from -10 to 10 in either case. In practice I identify as a market socialist with an ideology synthesizing principles drawn from social liberalism, social democracy, and democratic socialism. Though not a libertarian, the results may be interesting to compare to those of others here.

I studied Haidt’s work extensively last summer and am curious to see more results posted here. An idea kicked around awhile back was that people of different political dispositions embrace different aspects of the five moral foundations in such a way that it would be beneficial to break them each up into subcategories to investigate not just how much a person emphasizes the foundations of fairness or loyalty, for example, but also what kinds of fairness and loyalty they tend to stress relative to others.

Incidentally, Mike, your low scores across the board are fascinating. Do you expect this will be the norm we find here among anarchists, who I suspect in general would feel far less driven than most folk to force any of their perceptions of morality onto others via the state? To be honest, I’m not at all sure what kind of pattern to expect if any presents at all. What are your thoughts on the matter?

Well, I think the problem may be that my particular moral views don't hinge on my emotional reactions to harm or any of the other foundations. I've always found them too subjective, I prefer a rule based system and IIRC many of the harm and fairness questions certainly gave me an emotional response but did not break the particular set of rules I hold.

Incidentally the particular metric I measure by may simply be an unmeasured variable, however it has been a while since I've taken this so I do not remember. :?:

My entire stance on morality revolves around what set of moral rules I believe would create the best society IMO.
