EXPLOSIONS ROCK SANI ABACHA BARACK IN ABUJA

Sources in Nigeria's capital, Abuja just reported that there have been explosions at Abacha Baracks, Abuja, which is the gateway to the Main city. The reports claimed that scores of people may have died as already security agents from the different services have been massing around the area to give cover to medical personnel, in their frantic efforts to forestall more deaths.

It may be recalled that on Christmas Eve explosions rocked the venue of a Christian church service at Jos, Plateau State, a largely Christian State, with responsibility been claimed by a new extremist religious group, Jama'atu ahlus-Sunnah Lidda'awati wal Jihad. The group warned that it has began a war between Muslims and Christians with the intention to impose Islamic order. It is not yet known whether the same group is behind the explosions at the baracks, but the Mammy market in the place is well known as a rendevous for all sorts of fun seekers and other activities the extremist group abhors. END OF REPORT

POINTS TO NOTE:
The place is frequented by both Christians and conservative Muslims including their families. Christians in Nigeria have never been known for aggression against Muslims despite having roughly equal number. The major Christian/Muslim conflict in Jos, Plateau State is actually an ethno-communal one pitching the largely Berom/Christian tribe and their Fulani/Hausa/Muslim neighbours. One of the Presidential aspirants, Atiku Abubakar has condemned the attacks but blamed it on the President's incapacity. Atiku had earlier warned that violent change of leadership is inevitable if peaceful change was made impossible. Nigerians have condemned the hastiness in bringing politics into such a dastardly and inhumane development....
