So, the current spending 2022, according to quick google:

The United States ($778 billion)
China ($252 billion [estimated])
India ($72.9 billion)
Russia ($61.7 billion)
United Kingdom ($59.2 billion)
Saudi Arabia ($57.5 billion [estimated])
Germany ($52.8 billion)
France ($52.7 billion)
Japan ($49.1 billion)
South Korea ($45.7 billion)

(No idea how good the source is, its literally the first hit on google)

Thus doubling the spending of Germany would thus put Germany in spot #3, after USA and China, and bypassing UK and Russia.

*cough*

Yeah sorry - but this is the Bundeswehr (translates to "union defense", the german military).

If you can cherrypick an opponent in a war, the Bundeswehr would be your probably best candidate.

Why ? Because the Bundeswehr literally doesnt have own lawyers present when they make contracts with the military industry. Yes that has been the case since decades and gets pointed out since decades, but nothing changed.

Which is why these contracts are all completely horrible and the equipment doesnt work. Which means the Bundeswehr is a total joke, with problems like not having a single helicopter able to fly because they're all currently needing repair.

Dont get me wrong, I absolutely love this. I hope Scholtz misses this detail and we germans keep being the involuntary pacifists we have been in the past.

Still, I would rather halven the budget than double it. All that spending on the Bundeswehr is just subsidies to our military industry anyway.

Or maybe we could introduce general conscription again, and everyone gets on the reserve, and large parts of the budget goes out as wage for being in the reserve.

Admittedly I havent checked it separately, but it went through all the media that Trump demanded this publically from Germany, and it was only then that Germany ever started caring about this.
