Recently, the situation on the Korean peninsula is extremely unstable. North Korea is continuing to develop its nuclear program at a record pace. The goal is to create an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of delivering a nuclear warhead to the United States.
The nuclear tests of the DPRK cause the greatest concern for the United States, the Republic of Korea and the NATO alliance. In response to the ballistic missile tests conducted by the DPRK, they are imposing more and more sanctions against this country. On August 5, 2017, the UN Security Council unanimously voted in favor of a draft resolution on tightening sanctions against the DPRK. The draft resolution was developed by the United States. According to the document, the export of coal, iron, iron ore, lead, lead ore and seafood to the DPRK is prohibited, and restrictions are imposed on increasing the number of workers from this country and attracting foreign funding for joint projects.
That radical path along which North Korea is going is not acceptable not only to the West, but also to Russia and China. However, these countries are sure that it is impossible to resolve the problem by sanctions, a political dialogue is needed, including with the participation of the DPRK.
Washington calls the Korean threat more dangerous and calls for further action, while Russia and China call for political approaches, since the resources of the sanctions pressure on Pyongyang have already exhausted themselves. In their opinion, the problem looks like this: the DPRK would like to receive some guarantees of its security, but Seoul and Washington are not ready to give them. Moreover, they continue to provoke Pyongyang with large-scale military exercises at its borders. The situation is nervous for North Korea, and it awaits an attack.
DPRK sees the creation of nuclear weapons as a guarantee of its security. If there were international agreements guaranteeing the security of such countries as North Korea, they would have less temptation to create nuclear weapons.
In fact, the conflict with North Korea is a good pretext for the US to strengthen its presence in the region, surround China with military bases and missile defense systems, which, among other things, cover also the territory of the Russian Far East.
Although the US has good economic relations with China, it is perceived by them as a serious geopolitical and military threat in the Pacific Rim. The conflict with the DPRK is convenient for the subsequent containment of the influence of China in the region. As for Russia, it is using consistent policy to defend its geopolitical and economic interests in the region.

They sanctioned seafood to NK? What an odd thing to bar a country from having.

It would be interesting to see an entire list of US sanctions on NK. Until then I can’t really give a good response. But sanctions on any country end up hurting the population more than the despots themselves. So in that sense it’s the West that’s being quite provocative.

On another note, every time I look at pictures of the de-militarised zone I can’t help but think some flowers wouldn’t go astray. Hey, do you think NK and SK soldiers are friendly to one another when no ones watching?
