The politician (born in Canada but parents are from Hong Kong) criticized the treatment of Uyghurs, so the CCP started gathering info on the politician's family in Hong Kong in order to harass them and intimidate & blackmail the Canadian politician into compliance. Common CCP tactic. So Canada booted the diplomat doing it.

In response, China has expelled a Canadian diplomat.

Name an example of the Canadian government intimidating/harassing the family of a foreign politician because they criticized Canada on a human rights issue or whatnot.

Canada, as far as I'm aware, also does not have alleged illegal police stations in foreign countries with the purpose of intimidating/harassing foreign Canadian nationals.

I didn't claim Canada did. After all, Canada doesn't have an independent foreign policy. It's very easy for them to be more virtuous than average.

Christ almighty. And China doesn't have a history of giving smallpox blankets to First Nations. Stick to a topic. What does this have to do with influencing foreign politicians?

You're the one who starts with the whattaboutism in every thread criticizing shady CCP behaviour and you did it again. Follow your own advice and stick to the topic.

It has to do with the topic because the CCP has a clear pattern of intimidating/harassing Canadian citizens to ensure compliance to its agenda, be it politicians or the Chinese diaspora. Sounds like they do this to diaspora in many other countries as well. You're schilling for them.

I'm not defending China's conduct. I was just expanding on that thought and my wish that we held up other world powers to the moral standards and behavior you hold China too.

Any reasonable person already does, and I've spent my entire adult life criticizing the US and their foreign policy, far more than any other country, and have the posts to prove it going back over a decade. My username is also taken from the title of a song about it (great song). I'm no hypocrite, and I've never said the US or the West is anywhere near perfect.

Other powers aren't in my country intimidating politicians so I'm free to criticize China for it.
