EM - Like I said take it to facebook. There are only a few dozen people regularly on pofo and most of them are bored trolls. The whole world is on facebook, so you can find thousands (maybe much more) interested in your society. After facebook, do twitter, then make some youtube videos. When you have a few thousand friends / followers / subscribers you can think about a dedicated website for your society.

pofo is a nice place for chat but it is a very small pond for recruiting for an organisation.
