I've had a look at the titles of nearly all of the submitted (some accepted, some rejected) petitions on the UK government e-petition website. It's very much a mixed bag of banning stuff and quirky stuff. Summary and some petition links here:

On a slightly more serious note, was wondering - is the UK unique in this, or do other governments have mechanisms for people to launch petitions, where successful ones *may* or *are* debated in parliament? (Switzerland rings a bell, tho' is that a referendum and not a petition system?)
